Band

Dear EHS Band Students and Band Parents:

Welcome to the EHS Band Program!  Being among the best and striving for outstanding musical experiences requires tremendous teamwork and self-discipline.  This year will provide our program with many challenges as we embark on a new journey with the Bobcat Band.  But rest assured that as long as we stay positive, focus only on the things we can control, work hard, and be relentless in our pursuit of excellence, I feel very confident that this year will prove to be our must successful yet as we work together to attain our high goals.
No Pass-No Play requires grades to play a crucial role in the student’s ability to participate in “extra-curricular activities”.  All Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) events, University Interscholastic League (UIL) events, and football half-time performances are examples of extra-curricular activities.  Students must be passing all classes in order to be eligible to participate in activities such as these with our band.   Band concerts are designated an extension of the classroom and are therefore graded assignments for band.  As such, eligibility does not affect your ability to perform at these events.
Grades in band are based on attendance at all rehearsals, being prepared (with instrument plus all necessary accessories, music, pencil), playing exams, having a good attitude, and fully participating (in rehearsals as well as performances).  At times there may be some written work in the form of daily grades each six weeks.  Band is a performance-oriented activity; therefore great importance is placed on the efforts and teamwork necessary to produce a high quality music experience.  In band we want everyone to feel part of a team and to share in the rewards of practicing and performing well together.
This handbook has been put together to assist both the student and parent. The band and guard programs provide many great opportunities for your student. We hope we can make this a great experience for you and your student. As with all great programs, there is a lot of preparation and support required to make this a rewarding experience for all. We know each year many questions will arise. This handbook has been designed to help answer those. If you are unable to find the answer to your question, please feel free to call or email me should you have any questions or need any further information.
I hope that all students will enjoy band this year at Edinburg High School.  REMEMBER, you are:

THE PRIDE OF EDINBURG!

Musically,

Jason Rogers
