Students are NOT allowed to decorate the graduation gown. If your gown is modified, you will not be allowed to walk across the stage the day of graduation. You are only allowed to decorate your cap. Please take into consideration the following rules if you choose to decorate your cap for graduation. Students are not required to decorate their cap; it is completely optional.
If you choose to decorate your cap, please see below for the rules and guidelines. Failure to follow these rules will result in the removal of the cap at the ceremony, and students WILL NOT be allowed to participate in the ceremony without a cap and gown.
The following IS allowed and appropriate decor for the cap:
- Thank a parent, grandparent, teacher, friend
- Recognize the University you will be attending
- Your Graduation Year
- The branch of military you will be joining
- Recognize the sport you played or will be playing
- Inspirational quote
- Decorations must be flat on the top surface of the cap. No 3D/high rise creations allowed
- Ensure that your grad tassel is secured and that it hangs to the side
- Be sure to proofread all the information.
The following is NOT allowed and appropriate decor for the cap:
- No advertisement, symbols, abbreviations, initials, words, slogans, patches, or pictures that refer to drugs or controlled substances, tobacco, alcohol, weapons or be of sexual nature.
- No images/phrases that affiliate or advocate gangs, advocate drug use, violence, illegal activity, or disruptive behavior which is detrimental to the safety and welfare of other students.
No obscene, profane, vulgar, or lewd. - No images/phrases that threaten the safety and welfare of any person.
- Nothing may hang down from any of the sides of the cap; ensure that your grad tassel hangs.
If you have questions or need clarification on the decor, bring your cap to graduation practice for Administrator approval.
- Gentlemen, it is recommended to wear a buttoned up shirt and tie. Ladies do not have a specific attire because their personal clothes are not shown in this photo.
- Students, please bring your Cap and Gown.
- Sample Cap and Gowns will be available for those that do not have their Cap and Gown, however not all sizes will be available.
- Sponsors and the Guidance Department will have regalia to lend the students. Students will not receive their personal regalia until their Graduation Rehearsal in May.
- Before any graduation regalia (stoles, cords, etc.) is designed/ordered, it must be approved by the Campus Principal.
- Graduation regalia (stoles, cords, etc) must be school issued and approved by the Campus Principal.
- Graduation regalia (stoles, cords, etch.) must meet at least one of the following guidelines:
- Academic Honor(s) earned while in high school in a recognized and approved school organization/program.
- Community Service earned while in high school in a recognized and approved school organization/program.
- Honor Societies and/or Leadership role(s) while in high school in a recognized and approved school organization/program.
- Regalia from Fine Arts or Athletics must be approved by the Campus Principal before designed/ordered.
- At the beginning of the school year, all Seniors will attend a meeting with the Herf Jones representatives.
- Students will be notified of the meeting through their Senior Google Classroom, an announcement will be made, and it will be posted on Social Media.
- Be sure to monitor deadlines to ensure your Graduate receives their items on time.
