A proud graduate of Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science and a Master's Degree from the University of Texas Pan American, Filoteo began his journey at Waco High School and led him to a stellar coaching career that spans over two decades.
In 1983, he took the reins as the Varsity Head Basketball Coach of the Edinburg High School Runnin' Bobcats for 25 seasons! With a remarkable 553-130 win-loss record, he stands as the most successful coach in Edinburg High School's history. Under his leadership, the Runnin' Bobcats achieved an impressive 553 wins in 25 seasons, averaging more than 22 victories per year. His leadership saw the Bobcats reach the postseason 11 out of 13 years, capturing three District 31-5A titles heading into 2009 and clinching seven District Crowns overall.
His coaching prowess earned him multiple accolades, including being named Coach of the Year five times and All-Valley Coach of the Year twice. Under his guidance, the Edinburg High School basketball team advanced to the state Sweet 16 three times, setting a program record with 32 wins in 2008. Because of his success on the court, he was inducted into the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
Beyond his coaching achievements, he has made significant contributions as the Edinburg Parks and Recreation Director and the Athletic Director for ECISD. His dedication to sports extended beyond basketball basketball, serving as the UIL Regional Director for Regional IV-5A Boys and Girls Golf, Volleyball, and Basketball tournaments from 2010 to 2014. He was also honored as the 2011 Athletic Director of the Year for the City of Palms Clinic.
A dedicated member of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches since 1979, he made history as the only man to serve twice as president of the Rio Grande Valley Basketball Coaches Association. His commitment to the sport extends to organizing the annual South Padre Island Coaching Clinic since 1992 and being associated with the TABC Camp and Champs since 1985.
