Communication Devices Banned During Schoool

HB 1481 PROHIBITS THE USE OF PERSONAL COMMUNICATION DEVICES DURING INSTRUCTIONAL HOURS BEGINNING WITH THE 2025-2026 ACADEMIC YEAR.

Guidelines:

Devices May Not Be Used During the School Day

  • Students are not allowed to use personal cell phones or communication devices during the school day, from the time the first bell rings to the last bell - including lunch, recess, and transitions.
  • Devices are prohibited in all areas of campus - classrooms, cafeterias, libraries, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, and common spaces.
  • Devices must be powered off and kept out of sight, in their backpack.

Consequences for Violations:

  • Ist Violation: Phone will be confiscated. Student may pick it up at the end of the day. A $15 fine will be required for return.
  • 2nd Violation: Phone will be confiscated. A $15 fine will be required. A parent/guardian meeting is required in order to pick up the phone.
  • Refusal to comply will be considered insubordination and will result in 1 day of In-School Suspension (ISS).
  • *Disciplinary consequences will be progressive according to the ECISD student code of conduct.
